MSRA Exam – Multi-Specialty Recruitment Assessment

MSRA means multi-specialty recruitment assessment. It is often termed as SRA which means specialty recruitment assessment. It is a computer-based exam and it is created with the purpose to assess significant competencies and it has been a part of the ST1 clinical radiology application process since the year 2016. Two parts are there in the MSRA exam. It includes PD paper (professional dilemmas paper) and CPS (clinical problem solving).

MSRA examination is one of the most significant components of the selection process for the below-mentioned reasons:

1-     If an applicant is in the top 55 scoring candidates in MSRA, the applicant will be given a training post with no need to appear in an interview

2- Applicants need to obtain a score high enough to be given one of the limited numbers of interview slots as the interview slots ranking is based straightforwardly on the score in MSRA. If one fails to perform well, he won’t be given the interview. A cut-off score is there that applicants need to obtain or exceed.

3-     Once a candidate is through the interview phase, the MSRA score is weighted to grant to the ultimate selection centre score along with the interview presentation and certified self-assessment score.

What is the MSRA examination format?

It is identical to other recruitment evaluations. It is a timed computer-based evaluation. It can be completed in the closer local Pearson VUE centers.

Invitations for MSRA exam radiology are sent out at the beginning of December to the candidates that submit applications and meet important eligibility criterion.

    Here are more details about the two parts of the MSRA exam:

    Part-1 Professional dilemmas-110 minutes

    This paper is SJT (situational judgment test). This paper evaluates your familiarity with the right behavior for a doctor in tough circumstances.  Your responses have to distinguish fitting performance for FY2 in NHS. It spotlights on the right performance with regards to cooperating with sufferers and colleagues, specialized uprightness, managing hassle, and managing own workload. It doesn’t want particular specialty training familiarity. It assumes a general acquaintance with typical primary and secondary care procedures.

    The test encloses 3 core domains namely- empathy & sensitivity, managing pressure, and professional uprightness. Candidates have 110 minutes to finish 58 questions.   50 questions account for the ultimate score, as 8 questions are for piloting purposes in each one test.  On the other hand, candidates aren’t aware of questions being piloted; it is good to take them very seriously.

    The score will be based on a candidate’s performance. Applicants can score more by providing an answer which is close to but not identical to that from the expert group. The closer is your answer to the experts’ response, the more points you will score.

    Part-2 Clinical problem solving- 75 minutes

    This paper presents the candidate with clinical scenarios which want you to exercise judgment and problem-solving skills to figure out the right judgment and managing patients. This isn’t a test of knowledge; it’s a candidate’s ability to apply rightly. The questions are based upon the foundation level clinical practice and test a breadth of knowledge of medicine and surgery.

    This examination consists of 97 questions and 75 minutes are there to finish this part of MSRA exam radiology. 86 questions account for the final score as 11 are for piloting purposes. Again you won’t know the questions being piloted so make sure that you take them very seriously.

    Tips for preparing for this exam

    01- Leave adequate time to rework-

    Given the importance of this exam, MSRA exam preparation is very important. Many applicants will begin revising roughly 2 months prior. It is crucial to have sufficient time to practise a lot and make better the knowledge.

    02- Go through the illustrations questions thoroughly-

    If you feel you would get an advantage from revisiting some areas of knowledge or practice, to be able to show your capability, you need to do this before the examination. A glossary of terms and medical abbreviations that aren’t universally used will be given.
